Round Unfinished Wooden Box Detail

Studiomaster Studio 4
- 4 Track Multi Track Recording Studio
Description:

This is a PRO piece of recording gear of the highest quality. Analogue recording at it's best. This unit consits of a 4 track cassette deck and a 6 chanel Mixer with Mic pre's and studio grade parametric EQ. This unit was custom manufactured by a small company in the UK for Studio master in the early eighties. All of the parts in this deck are of the highest grade: quality European parts. The unit is built super heavy duty in a thick all metal case. All mechanicalparts in the tape mechanism are metal and of highest qualirty - No platic here! The drive motor consistes of a brushless direct drive capstan motor running at doble the regular cassette speed at 9.5 cm/sec. for highest quality recordings. PC boards are of highest quality: tinned with ground plane. A very fine piece of gear!

Features:

A complete all in one analogue integrated recording studio setup, which combines a 4 chanel tape trasnport with a 6 x 4 mixer. The tape transport is solenoid controlled and implements a 2 motor design. The direct drive capstan motor offers speed control and the transport features an electronic tape counter module, that can be programmed to stop at zero. The tape deck integrates Dolby noise reduction and adjustable pitch / speed control of the direct drive capstan motor. The deck can record 4 chanels simultationusly, has bargraph 12 LED level indicatiors, one for each chanel. There are 4 tape monitor level controls, that allow to mix each of the tape chanels into the monitor mix / outptut. There is a headphone jack with volume control.

The 6 x 4 Mixer has 6 chanel strips and there are 2 return chanels for a total of 8 inputs. There are XLR input with Mic pre and 1/4 line inputs for each of the 6 chanels. There is also one insert jack for each of the 6 chanels to loop in effects, etc. The XLR inputs have provisions to be phantom powered for 48V Phantom powered Condenser Mics. Each of the 6 chanels strips provides: a gain control (-10 to -60 db), a "line" switch, High EQ +/- 16 db, Parametric EQ for mids: 0.2 to 8 Khz and +/- 16 db, Parametric Bass EQ: 25-350 Hz and +/- 16 db, 2 effects sends (AUX1, AUX2) and a master fader. The mixer is a 4 bus design meaning each of the 6 input chanles can be assigned to any of the 4 recording chanels of the tape deck (multiple selection possible and record enable switches present for each of the tape recoding chanels) In the bus assignement switch region of the mixer, there are switches to assign the 4 tape playback chanels to the first 4 chanels of the mixer to allow mix down or track reduction bounce down.

Condition:
This is
a PROJECT, which is NOT READY to use In it's current condition - NEEDS TO BE COMPLETED. I was palnning to refurbish this unit for my own usage (and possibly could do so for you if wishing to pay for my time), but if things continue as they have been I just will have to let go of it, to let someone else enjoy it. This unit mainly needs power supply added, as the original toroid transformer, which was defective, is unavailable and would have needed to bo custom wound. (original windings: 5V 12V CT, 15V CT, 48V). I already installed a set of 2 +/- 12V supplies (as th ethe time I was unable to find a high current +/-15V supply) and all is hooked up and basically working, but there was an issue, that required the original +/- 15V and thus the plan was to install a supply, that would provide the needed higher voltages. I found a suitable supply and bought it (included, see "lot" below), which would allow to fabricate an external power supply module that will work, but to hook this up is the project to be completed. Besides this, all else basically works. as it is. Some years back I had worked on the unit and cleaned all contacts, switches, pots, etc., but my recommnedation would be, to do it again, as so long ago. (To mention: I work on vintage audio equipment for a living with almost 30 years of experience - this unit can definitely be brought back to it's full original glory, if wanting to spend the time!)
Asides from light dust and slight signs of use, this unit is in good to excellent excellent condition. The heads of this unit are in good condition and should perform flawless (light signs of wear). Many years back I actually had done some test recordings with this unit, which were fine in terms of head performance. It has not been used since then. All knobs are there, but are not original - I had received this unit without any knobs and installed.

Lot: Studiomaster Studio 4 - 4 Track Recording Studio (shown), Not shown: 1 High powered +/- 15V differential power supply module (ample power to power this unit!), 1 phantom supply module (converts 12V to 48V), 1 set of 8 Pin connectors that would allow to fabricate a connection cable that would connect the supply to the unit, 1 large envelope with various paper work: Xerox copy of the original service manual for the studio 4, a xerox copy of the original owners manual for the studio 4, a peformance specification sheeet for the above mentioned power supply, various hand written notes on technical details in regards to power supply, connectors, etc.
