Phase Linear 4000 Vintage US made Pre- Amplifier designed by Bob Carver: First my apologies for the poor photos - As time allows I will update. There is a difference between equipment manufactured in the USA, Europe or elsewhere. This is an example of a very fine well crafted rugged yet luxorious pre-amplifier. Remeber the days when the first Marantz stereo equipment was manufactured in the USA? This unit appears to me to be inspired by exactly that. This pre-amplifier sets itself apart from other pre-amplifiers, as it offers the following custom ciruitry, which especially is useful for vintage vinyl / phono listening (and recording!): Auto-Correlation as noise limiter, Peak unlimit to remove the frame in which records are squeezed to prevent acess stylus movement and thispre-amplifier offers SQ circuitry for simulated quadraphony (it had 4 chanels out controlled by a "joystick" balance control. The unit is constructed so all circuitry is on separate plug-in cards one for each circuit. This is finest quality heavey duty all metal equipment - no plastic used in it's casing. They just don't mak'em like that anymore!
This unit was fully refurbished with a very detail oriented job to bring it back to original specs for lively vibrant sound to perform reliably for decades to come: Aged solder points were re-soldered - in addition to my usual quality work.

SX-828 Description: This vintage 1970's Pioneer brushed aluminm face Hi-Fi receiver is among the finest Pionerr receivers. High power, built very well and an abundace of useful features characterizes this wonderful piece of vintag Hi-Fi equipment to be among the top vintage analog receivers. With output power up to 270 W into 4 Ohms this unit rocks (2 x 75 W RMS). A very fine tuner with high FM selectivity ratings and vesitility in the amplifier circuitry this luxory receiver stands above others. There are 2 tape circuits (with copy function), 2 phono circuits, separate base and trebble controls for each channel, Microphone inputs and up to 3 pairs of speakers that can be combined in various confirgurtations by the switch in the front panel. Condition: Electronics - recently overhauled: All is working perfectly. Nice reception and amazing sound! Physically exceelent. Some signs of use but very nice in appearance.
Work performed To present this unit in reliably working condition: All Pots and switches were cleaned and de-oxed. Aged solder points re-soldered on severla boards. Refurbished the low power power supply board entirely by replacing ALL electrolytic capacitors and re-ssoldered aged solder points. Replaced some electrolytic capcitors in the audio pre-amplifier section; Replaced and upgraded the most stressed lamps and upgraded to LED technology: dial pointer light and FM stereo indicator light; de-oxydized al contactign in the tuning capacitors, aligned the fron end of the FM tuner Full functional test - OK; detailed physical cleaning and detail work - About 18 hours of labor, plus parts went into the restoration of this unit.

Pioneer SX-580 Description: This is a nice quality analog tuner - amplifier that is found closer to the entry level scale, but never the less does not fall short in the standard of quality known to much higher priced Pioneer silver-face receivers. You will feel and hear the difference to other lower quality receivers in the 2 x 20W class. Construction: Aluminum face with wooden casing. If wishing for an vintage analog stereo receiver that is cost efficinet with output power sufficient for the office or bed-room: go no further this is it!
Features: Amplifier section: 2 x 25 W RMS into 4 Ohms or 2 x 20W RMS into 8 Ohms @ 0.3% THD. Terminals for 2 speaker pairs, a headphone jack, loudness, 3 External inputs: Aux, Tape (with recording output), Phono (for vintage turntables). 2 Power Meters; Tuner: AM, FM stereo, muting,, tuning meter (center meter for FM) and iluminated tuning dial.
With the correct audio adapter cable an iPod can easily be connected to this receiver. Can provide for an additional $5.00
Condition: Repaired, then Refurbished - fully working except for one shortcomming: The FM tuner slightly drifts with temperature changes and may require to slightly re-tune your favorite radio station about once a day. (Drifts off center) As I have spent much more time in repairing and refurbishing this receiver than I can hope to get paid for it, I am offering the unit here with this short coming at a reduced price. The problem is caused by one temperature sensitive capacitor in the FM oscillator circuit, which is easily remedied by replacing it, but hard to get to. The choices offered here are: to purchase the unit at the reduced rate with the described defect as mentioned here, or to add $125 to the below price and I will perfect it. Other than the mentioned: The unit works perfectly. Only minor signs of use. Very clean and very nice for it's age.
Work performed to present this unit in reliably and nice working condition: Repaired problem in the power supply. De-Oxydized and lubricated all switrches, controls and contacts, including the tuning capacitor. re-soldered aged solder points. Checked and tweaked of all allignments. Detailed alignment for the FM front end. Physical Cleaning and detail work.
