System Description: This vintage Hi-Fi system consists of a Heathkit integrated tube amplifier, a Heathkit FM stereo vaccum tube tuner, a Silvertone 4 speed record changer and a vintage 50's RCA 3-Way speaker (not shown). Items can be bought separately or as one system.

Amplifier Description: This was a fine amplifier in it's time and it sounds exquisit! It features 6BQ5 output tubes (Mullards) and a quality ultra linear 5 tap output transformer. Made in the mid 50's in the USA it was designed for a mono system, so besides to be perfect for a listening system for 78 RPM shellac records, it would also provides a nice basis for a guitar or instrument amplifer, such as for harp. The usage for an amplifier for am musical instrument, such as a harp or high gain playing, is especially appealing as the design this amplifier integrates an extra gain stage in it's pre-amplifer, used as for the phono magnetic input. Mono listeners, guitarists, harpistst this is your chance to get your hand onto a very nice piece of vintage gear in great shape! This unit is completley refurbished for reliabable long term operation: All capacitors in the power supply and in the signal path have been replaced!
Features: Inputs: Phono ceramic, Phono magnetc, Tuner Outputs: taps for speaker hook up for 4, 8, 16 Ohms Controls: Volume, Bass, Trebble. Switches: Input selector: Mag Phono, Tuner, Chrystal Phono. (For an intrument amplifier: Hooking up a Y-cable to the inputs would allow to switch between different gain settings and the input.). This amplifier is mono.
Tubes: 2x 6BQ5 (Output); EZ-81 (Rectifier), 6EU7, 6AN8, 6AU6.
Condition: Electronics: Perfect - completely overhauled. Physical: A few dings on the paint (no major eye sores), but other than that clean and in excellent condition. No rust or oxydisation.
Work performed to rework this unit: Basically everything needed to have this unit working perfectly and reliably: Replaced all capacitors in the power supply, Replaced all signal coupling capacitors, double checked all of the circuitry and it's wiring, improved the grounding system in wiring and replaced power chord with a grounded chord (excellent for guitar usage!), cleaned, deoxydized and lubricated all controlls, switches and tube sockets. Retensioned tube sockets, resolder work. Tests perform perfect. Physical cleaning and detail work.
Lot: 1 Comletely re-worked Heathkit AA-161 14 W RMS Hi-Fi Tube Amplier, fully tubed, reworked and as described above.
Price: $325.00 (The cost for labour and parts to restore this unit was higher than this price - you get a reliably working piece of quality gear worth any penny spent on it! An excellent value for the money: Compare the price for guitar tube amps lately, or consider buying a tube amp comparable to this unit at a lower price just to blow it up after a coupel of weeks to spend another $300 to get it repaired and reworked.)

Tuner Description: The tuner is quite simple, yet high quality. It is tested to be working, and receives even distant stations well, but except for lubricationg and deoxydizing it's volume control no work has ben perforemd on it. It's features are: On/off combined with the mono putput volume control, A tunong contol and an AFC swtich. On the back is one RCA output labelled mono, the other is labelled stereo. Description: This is a matching vaccum tube pre-amplifier / power amplifier set. However as applications for both units may varry, I offer also to sell them separately. LEAK was a British company, who manufactured pro-audio equipment for the broadcast industry, and these Hi-Fi stereo units were desinged and manufacturesd in Great Britain in the 50's. The dates of manufacture are: 1960 for the pre-amplifier and 1961 for Stereo 50 Power amplfier. These unis are completley overhauled with an in depth job and quality components: All capacitors in these uniits were replaced for decades of trouble free services to come. This is an exceptional value, as very time intensive, and aged compontents if left unattended, even in fully working vaccum tube equipment, very likely will cause problems.
The pre-amplifier is charakterized with two main features: wide control over the tonal qualities of the signal and the offering of several equalization curves in the pho pre-amplifier stage, to adhere to various vintage record standards.
The power amplifier is charakterized with above average outptu power with it's 50 W RMS of tube power per chanel , plus precision in sounds, as ultra linear circuitry is applied (similar circuits found in McIntosh tube amplifiers)
How do these sound? Vintage sound with a lot of warmth and detail with great dynamics and the feeling of power. Be impressed! More powerful than the average stereo tube amplifie. I have also original LEAK speakers that match this set quite well, which can be found HERE!
Detailed Features for the STEREO 50 power amplifier: This amplifier uses a pair of EL34 / 6CA7 output tubes, ultra linear outptu transformers and driver circuitry that is comprised of 3 12AX7 triodes per chanel. The amplifier provides regular RCA input jacks to be used with regular stereo equipment, but also provides a LEAK specific 8 pin jack to connect directly to the pre amplifier. This jack provides power to the pre-amplifier and received the audio signal from the pre-amplifier. Each of the output transforers provides 3 selectable outptu impedances: 4, 8, 16 Ohms. There is a power input jack, which includes a ground pin (power cable included). The unit also provides 2 AC power outlets which accept regular AC power plugs.
Tubes: 4x 6CA7 / EL34 / KT66 (Output); 5AR4 / GZ 81 Tube rectifier (Rectifier), 3 12AX7 pre-amp / driver tubes.
Detailed Features for the Varislope STEREO pre- amplifier: While this pre amplifier was originally designed to compliment power amplifiers, it's actual application today are much more than originally desinged for, including to be used as a vaccum tube Mirophone pre-amplifier, a tube phono pre-amplifier, or even a tube tone bank for recording studio applications. In my eyes the Varislope STEREO is a widely underrrated piece of gear and a great secret weapon to bring tube warmth to todays digital world, both for home and studio environments.
The unit has inputs for: Microphones, Magnetic tape heads (such as found in vintage open reel tape deck chassis - tube echo comes to mind), 2 Magnetic turntable cartridges, tuner and auxiliary. Each of the phono, tuner, aux inputs provides a gain swith that allows to select between HI and LOW. There is a pair or RCA recordign ouytputs. The front panel of this pre-amplifie roffers the folowing: (in the picture let to right, top to bottom): Input selector rotary switch with positions for: EXTRA, TUNER, Phono RIAA, Phono NARTB, Phono 78 OE, Phono 78 NE, (The different phono equalisation other than RIAA are to address standards of records manufactures prior to 1955 - British and American - record collectors heaven!); The pre-amplfier provides a rotary switch for chanel selections. These options are provided: Reverse, Stereo, R, L, Mono (Perfect if using thsi unit to transfer vintage audio material!). There is a "Bass" control, a selector switch that selects between phono input 1 or 2; There is the dual layer filter switch: the inner ring gives 4 positions to adjust the slope of the filter, the outer ring provides 4 positions to adjust the filter frequency similar to that found in a parametric Equalizer. The switch right of the filter knobs switches a "rumble filter " in or out to cut unwanted feedback ot vibrations below 20 Hz, such as picked up by turntbles; There is a TREBBLE control, a blance control (samll knob) and a VOLUEM control with a built in power switch. Teh unit is desgined to be powered by the power amplifier, which means if wishign to purchase this unit alone, an external power supply (200V DC and 6.3V AC) will be needed, which I can custom build at additional cost.
Tubes (Varislope Stereo): 4x EF 86 / 2729 / 6267.
Condition / Work performed to rework these units: Both units have been completely overhauled, which means that in addition to repairs, ALL capacitors were replaced (with the exeption of a few special low voltage signal capcitors, that were intentionally left in place, where the vintage capacitors are actually better than new ones; (power supply AND signal coupling capacitors replaced!) All contacts, controll and switches have been estorred including the re-tensioning and lubrication of all tube sockets. About 13 hours of labor went into the restorration of these units (majority of time spent on capacitor replacement) Both units are technically reworked and tested - in great condition. Both units are sold and reliable performers. Physical cleaning and detail work. Physical condition: in great physical condition and clean,, but with some signs of it's 48 years of usage: some minor scratches, dings etc. Actual units shown in my photos with all items on my web site!

Description: This single eneded tube amplifier chassis delivers: Detail, transparency, resolution and dynamics in sound, that only can be found in a single eneded tube amplifier. It also features a tube rectifier! This amplifier sounds very present, and delivers a great spacious stereo image. It can be used as: a low powered listening amplifer, a monitor amplifier, a headphone amplifer, a tube stage to connect betwen other equipment (has line level output), or to be used as a small amplifer to amplify your iPod etc.It delivers considerable volume for it's relativelty low output power. This amplifier is comparable to any modern equipment! - In adidtion ot the above the bass of this unit sounds truely vintage and give the unit warmth in sound. The amplifier chasis is mounted between the 2 side panels, which include the original low power high resolution speakers. There is a 2 ganged volume control, to adjsut each channel separately, One pair RCA inpts and a headphone output. This unit is estimate to have bene made between 1964 and 1966.
Features: This amplifier uses 6AR5 output tubes, which are thoeretically capable to deliver a maximum of about 8 Watts. The high voltage outptu of the power transformer is about 25 Watt. Actual outptu output power of the amplifer however is less, as the included speakers are marked with 1Watt 8 Ohms, which means, that the speakers are actually highly sensitive and great for reproducing great detail, which impresses, when listening to this amplifer.
This original case is included at no cost for the case, if wanted, but will add 7 lbs. and a much larger box size to the shipping weight. Please indicate if to include it.
Detailled Features: 1 pair of RCA input jacks (line level), 1 Pair of RCA output jacks (if wishing to use this unit as a tube stage when connecting it in chain with other equipment. There is a dual ganged volume control, that allows to adjust each channel separately. There is a 1/4" stereo headphone jack and a speaker mute switch that allows to turn this unit inot a tube headphone amplifer (speaker off switch provides the propper impedance loading!). There are 2 1/4" jacks for external speakers, which disconnect the internal speakers when a plug is inserted. There is a DIN plug for connection to European equipment, and there is a voltage and hertz switch that alows to adapt the unit to any of the world power requirements (100 - 240 V AC - 50 / 60 Hz)
Note: If looking for gear to build a tube guitar amp: This amp provides the parts to build an amplifier, if using each of the output transformers / chanels for each half wave of the signal and a 16 Ohm speaker to be connected to both outputs. Have a look at some of the Univox amplifiers which use similar components, to get the concept, which can be found here
Tubes: Output: (2) 6AR5, Pre-Amps / Drivers: (1) 12AT7, 6CA4 Tube rectifier (hard to see in above picture).
Condition: Complete, fully tubed, and fully working. While fully working, this unit ideally would be enclosed in a case and a front plate to cover exposed HI-voltage parts and conntacts, which are otherwise accessible to the touch - HIGH VOLTAGE - DANGER! If building a case or usung the case shown to the ledt,: that also will improove the bass response of the "built-in" speakers. Ideal might be to implement a case / speaker design, that separates the internal speakers from the amplifer.
Lot: 1 amplifier as described above, includes all tubes (original, vintage, used), 2 side panels (mounted) with the original 8 Ohm 1 W speakers that came wit this amplfier. Unit needs enclosure work to be safe - High Voltage contacts etc. exposed - Danger! Case shown to the left included, if wanted (still will need a front panel to protect against high voltage exposure.
