The modification of your already exisitng direct drive tunrtable may be an option and for speed modification to 3, 4 or multiple speeds, the following will be needed:
1) A direct drive turntable in perefect working condition* providing a 1/2" standard-mount headshell to mount 1/2" standard mount cartridges.
• I can provide custom modidifed plug and play ready custom tunrtables to your needs (Please Inquire)
• I will be happy to tell you, if your tunrtable is compatible with these requirements
*If your existing tunrtable is less than fully working, I can repair / restore your tunrtable to perform to original specifications and do all of the technical maintenanace to get it ready for the rotation speed modification
2) Once the motor is modified to provide the desired platter rotation speeds, for 78 RPM playback, the tunrtable needs to provide:
A cartridge that provides the needed wide groove stylus for 78's, OR: A dedicated head-shell / cartridge, that provides the 78 RPM wide groove stylus.
• I can provide a suitable cartridge, a complete headshell, or a solution that will allow to change stylie between micro-groove and wide-groove sizes (for specific cartridges only)
If your turntable is one of the below listed makes and models I can modify it within 5-15 business day turnaround time. Costs are in the $175 to $250 range for the platter speed modification only. Cartridge / headshell / stylus options, or specialty modification items in addition:

If your turntable model is not listed above: Please tell me what make and model, if direct drive (belt drive turntable modifications to 78 RPM not recommneded, and often no speed modification possible at all - need ot know motor type), If the turntable provides mounting for a standard-mount 1/2" cartridge. For turntable models not listed above I will give a first response by e-mail, and if we determine, that your tutntable model is a likely candidate for possible modification you will have to ship it in. After an extensive equipment evaluation I will tell you what I can do for you, how long it will take, and how much it will be, or if the unit cannot be modified. If your unit cannot be modified, or if no work is ordered, I charge a flat $50 equipment evalauation fee and will return the tunrtable in the same working condition, or better, in which it was shipped in. (Likely I will perform basic maintenance and re-work to improve long term reliablity of your unit, in order to get reliable test results form your unit) Shipping costs in addition.
Please NOTE:
• Before a speed modification can be performed the turntable to be modified has to be in flawlessly perfect working condition - Can repair, if needed (at additional cost)
• Most tunrtables are limited to play standard up to 12" records. Speed modification to 16 RPM will provide 16 RPM platter speed for regular record sizes up to 12", but cannot address size requirments for 16" disk size, such as used for commercial broadcast and trascripton records. In most cases: for 16" disks a specialty tunrtable will be needed - Please Inquire.

What is the difference between Turn Tables, Record Changers and Record Players?
Turntables are usually component type Hi-fi Stereo players that hook to an external amplifier or receiver. Almost all vintage tunrntables output at "phono" level to hook up to a "phono" input. If no phono input is present a Phono-Preamplifier is required.
Record Changers allow to play multiple records automaticly without interuption.
Record Players are usually one piece stand-alone playback devices that have all needed components built in, which includes a built-in amplifier and most often buil-in speakers. Some record players feature detachable speakers. Most Record Players do not provide and audio output and therefore are not suitable for transfering or recording.

Description: This SL-D2 was custom modified to provide a precision 4 speed instrument to reproduce 16, 78, 33 and 45 RPM records. It features pitch control and stroboscope speed measuring. For those of you who not familiar with Technics SL series: SLs are used in recording studios and Pro-DJ setups and this home unit is no exception to outstanding quality. It shall be mentioned however that 16 RPM pushed this tunrtable towards it's physical limits, which means that at 16 RPM wow/flutter values are higher than normal. While this is likely acceptable for most 16 RPM playback this unit may not be ideal to do low speed conversions of regular speed 33 RPM records. Another rmodel of my custom modified tuntables may be more suited for that purpose.
The SL-D2 is much higher in quality than an average home stereo turn table.
Condition + Work performed: Mechanically sound. Completely overhauled: re-soldered aged solder points, re-worked all controls and switches and re-worked / re-lubricated mechanical parts; custom modified to accommodate 16 + 78 RPM speeds. Custom modified the strobe lighting to my green signature. All features work good. Cosmetics: Good (8/10), some signs of use, light scratches. Dust cover and turn table chassis have a few scratches

Description: This quality direct drive turntable is ready to play 78 shellac records and comes readily equipped with a 78 RPM wide groove cartridge. This quality turntable was originally manufactured by Technics for Realistic and is Realistic branded, but implements the exact same technologies than other Technics tunrtables.
I custom modified this unit to be primarily a 78 RPM turntable and it is ready plug and play 78 RPM records. As with any vintage turtnable: This unit will need to be hooked up to the "phono" input of your vntage audio equipment. If using modern equipment that does not longer provide "phono" inputs, or if direct hook-up to the audio input of a computer is required, please add a phono pre-amp. (adds $39)
FEATURES: This unit provides 2 speeds: 78 and 33, is semi automatic (manualy start with auto return and shut off) and has a pitch fine adjustment wheel. Description: If you are musician and want to practise from you favorite vintage records at half speed, or if wanting to listen to rare 16 RPM recordings (up to 12" disks), this unit is for you. Technics has always been among the top names of turntable manufacturers and this simple but well thougnht out turntable model offers all the useful features, such as: pitch adjustment, manual and automatic operation. I cutom modified this unit by adding 16 RPM switching and circuitry but also could not help my artistic side: I changed the stroboscope lighting to green (at tadditional charge can change to anything you want. - own a unique piece of gear no one else has!). This player is great addition to the sound system of any the modest music enthusiast, or if wanting to to transfer your favorite tunes to your computer.
Condition: Technically fully working: recently overhauled and fully tested. Work performed to present this unit as shown: custom modification to add circuitry for 16 RPM, lubrication of all drive parts, resolderign of all aged solder points, deox all trimpots, performed all electronic calibrations, physical cleaning and detail work - the unit looks great! Note: The motor of this unit appears somewhat worn and may not last as long as a new player, thus for heavy usage, I recommend to get th eNOS unit as below, or to get a custom modified direct drive turntable. 1) - 4 Speed Modification (16 / 33 / 45 / 78 ) to also include 78 RPM (Please NOTE: I do neither know of any 78 stylie that fit AT p-mount cartridges, not do I know any other p-mount cartride that offers 78 RPM sylie - which means that likely the regular LP stylus has to be used for 78 RPM, which is less than ideal!

Description: This Hi-FI tunrtable from the late sixties appears to be a high quality unit, was made ruggedly, and has classic features, such as a chromed platter and the classic look. The mechanism appears rugged and is based on an idler wheel drive. The unit features a standard head shell mounting (for easy 78 RPM cartridge installation) with a magnetic standard mount cartridge. This is a semi automatic tunrtable with Auto-Return. - automatically returns and shuts off when the record has played to the end).
Condition: good, works good. (auto return mechanism completely overhauled) - clean with minor signs of use - no major crack, blemishes or dents. However: The unti runs about 2% fast on all speeds - only noticable to the most trained ear! This cannot be adjusted and it is noted that many vintage turntables with no speed adjustment often are running slightly of fspeed. DJ turntables in comparrison usually allow +/- 10% pitch contol - so 2% is a relatively minor deviation. This can be corrected by re-manufacturign the idler whelle which will add about $65 to the toal cost of thsi unit, but again is not noticeable to the average listener (and for the discerning musician should be easily corrected with the pitch shift function of your audio software, if using a digital suystem to record material to).

Description: This JVC Hi-FI tunrtable is a quality instrument made in 1987 when tunrtable desings had come to a ripening.
