About Reel to Reel Tape and recording formats: ©2008MarRsingStarUltraelectronicactive.com Open reel tape is most common in 1/4" or 1/2" width and can be recorded in various different recording formats. The basiscs are: the more room for the audio material physically on the etape, the better it sounds. This can be achieved by recording speed and track width - in other words how much space a track takes form the width of a tape. The more material can be squeezed onto a tape the longer it will play, but will result in lower quality recordings. Proffessional machines thus record at 15 or 38 IPS in half track or ful track format, where consumer machines most often record in quater track format at 3 3/4 or 7 1/2 IPS. Recordings can be made in mono on one of the availalbe track, or in stereo, where stereo recordings usually cut the availalbe recording time in half, as 2 tracks are recorded at the same time. It is also important to consider what maximum reel size a deck can work with. Higher speed professional machines can often accept 10 1/2" reel sizes, while consumer decks are often limited to 7" reel sizes. ©2008MarRsingStarUltraelectronicactive.com How much material can a 7" Tape reel hold? ©2008MarRsingStarUltraelectronicactive.com Depending on recording speed and track usage open reel tapes can hold vastly varying amounts of material. If recorded at 15 IPS and in stereo and in half track format can hold about 22 minutes of material, OR (!) if recorded at 1 7/8 IPS in mono and in quarter track format and recorded on all 4 tracks, can provide 12 hours of audio material! The average user however records their tapes in stereo quarter track format , and in either 3 3/4 or 7 1/2 IPS. This translates to 45 Minutes for 7 1/2 IPS, or 90 Min. for 3 3/4 IPS Per SIDE (!). Here all of the details again: One 7" Open Reel Tape contains about 1800' of tape and will play in stereo: 45 Minutes @ 7 1/2 IPS, 90 Min. @ 3 3/4 IPS or 180 Minutes @ 1 7/8 IPS, PER SIDE (!) - so double the time if recorded double sided; AND: if recorded in mono: (as there are 2 tracks per side for quater track width) double the time AGAIN!. © 2008 ultraelectronicactive.com - linking to this page in it's entirety permitted - All else requires permission. ![]() Description: Roberts equipment is known for rugged and heavey duty construction to last a life time and this unit is no exceptiom! Here we have a fully refurbished specimen in excellent condition and low mileage on it's heads. Vintage car collectors: make your own tapes for your vintage car! Music enthusiasts: This machine has a super rugged mechnaism and handles even difficult tapes well. This machine can't get any better: It is built industrial strength. In it's mechanism it usees a heavey duty AC synchronus motor and all metal parts to handle even the most demanding tapes well. It is my pleasure to present this wonderful piece of historic audio recording equipment in perfect condition. The heads are low mileage and this recorder was reworked, now ready for decades of vintage music pleasure. Work performed to restore this unit: I replaced the drive belt, de-oxidised all controls and switches, re-lubricated mechanical parts. This unit had an issue with cold solder points which likely prevented the machine for years in the past years to work fully satisfactory and thus it probably was not used very much, preserving the heads of this machine. I re-soldered about 90% of all solder points in the electronics of this unit, to be perfect now! - This unit performes close to when it was new and is ready to peform for decades to come! This unit passed a full functional test. My detail oriented work took nearly 3 hours of labour and about $25 in parts. ![]() Description: This is an quite cool PRO quality piece of recording gear. Analogue recording at it's best. This unit consits of a 4 track cassette deck and a 6 chanel Mixer. It was made by a small company in the UK for Studio master in th eearly eighties. The parts used are of the highest quality European parts. The unit is built super heavy duty in a thick all metal case. all mechanicalparts in the tape mechanism are metal. the drive consistes of a brushless direct drive capstan motor runnign at 9.5 cm/sec. (double of the regulatr tape speed). MORE DETAIL Features: A complete all in one analogue recording studio setup, which integrates a 4 Track deck (runnign at double the regular tape speed) and a 6 x 4 Mixer. The tape deck feature integrated dolby noise reduction and adjustable pitch. The mixer provides: 6 Input with XLR and phantom powered Mic inputs by 4 bus (5th bus on 4 chanels: tape deck in) . The mixer also provides 2 Aux sends and parametric EQ for bass and mids per each chanel. Condition: This is a project, which is not ready to use as sold. I was palnning to refurbish this unit for my own usage, but if things continue as they have been I just will never get to it. This unit mainly needs power supply added, as the original toroid transformer was unavailable. I already found an external power supply module that works and it will need to be hooked up. Besides this, all else works. AS it is som eyears ago that I worked on it the unti may possibly benefit from soem cleaning of contacts etc. Asides from light dust, this unit is in good to excellent excellent condition. The heads of this unit are in good condition (light signs of wear) Price: >>>Make Your Own Price<<< as described above including schematics and power supply. Secure and Easy Payment through Paypal. | ©2008 ultraelectronicactiv.com Description: This original 1986 SONY WALKMAN (part number: Part number: 3-341-445- ) comes in it's original box, includes all the original accesories, including the owner's manual, and fully works - with low milage on the heads! Just like it's bigger brother the WM D6C or TC-D6C this unit comes in a fine metal enclosure, features somewhat similar construction and definitely is a fine piece of equipment. The unit allows to record by means of the included external plug-in power one point stereo microphpone, or form the built in radio, which features FM stereo and AM. Compact Cassettes (regular audio cassettes) are played in both directions (reverse) and there is a playback Dolby system. ©2008 ultraelectronicactiv.com Detailled Physical Features: FRONT PANEL: Door lock, Rewind, Fast Forwind, Stop/Eject, Play and Record Buttons, AM/FM switch, TOP PANEL: Tape run indicator LED, Direction button, repat mode switch: play once / play continuously, PB EQ: NORM / CrO2, 3.5 mm Plug-in power stereo Mic Jack, DOLBY NR (PB) switch: OFF/ON, 3.5 mm stereo headphone jack; Lower section of the top panel: indent to open cassette compartment, tuning wheel, function switch: Tape (radio off / Local / DX; REAR Panel: Volume control wheel, ISS switch: 1 / 2/ 3, Print: Model number, Key features and DOLBY note; Bottom: removable battery case ©2008 ultraelectronicactiv.com Usefulness of this recorder: This unit is primarily a collectors item, unless used for listening primarily. Compared to the WM D6C, the recording quality of this model is much less sophisticated, as the D6 uses better heads and AC bias, compared to this model, which uses a permanent magnet to erase previous recordings. The microphone pre-amplifier of the D6 is much better as well. Facit: The WM-F200 is not well suitable for studio quality recordings. In recordings on this model a quality difference between the original signal and the played back signal can be noticed. It should however be fine for recording of high level sounds, such as for annotations, sketch-pad for ideas, recordings of conversations, etc. But maybe I am spoiled by having used PRO-gear all of my life. I am just mentioning this, so that you won't be disappointed. ©2008 ultraelectronicactiv.com Top Garage Main Listen to Music by Rising Star Home |
©2008 ultraelectronicactiv.com Work performed to restore this unit: Degreased and re-lubricated operation mechanics. Deoxydized and lubricated volume control and in/output jacks. Belts appear OK - FF + REW OK; Full functional test - OK. Physical cleaning and detail work.2008 ultraelectronicactiv.com Condition: Electronics / Mechanical: Appears to work well and as intended - appears to no thave had much use: low mileage on the heads Physical: Looks almost like new: only one larger scratch and few smaller scratches on the radio panel, few fine wear scratches on the battery case - very clean - amazing condition: lush colors and new appearance! Original "It's a SONY sticker on front pannel. Appears to have travelled though: uppon close inspection: there is one dent in th emetal part of the front panel, one dent on the side panel near the "Play" button and the operator lver of the AM/FM switch is missing - barely noticeable but won't allow to switch between AM/FM, unless using a needle to operate the unexposed lever part of the switch inside the case. Original packing: box shows wear, but is complete with nothing torn off. All print is well readable. Top clear plastic part of the box has scratches and one tear. This unit is a collectors item. compared to the D6C the recording quality of this unit is much less sophisticated. ©2008 ultraelectronicactiv.com Lot: 1 SONY WM-F200 MKII Recording Walkman in original box, plus these original accesories: ©2008 ultraelectronicactiv.com Included accessories detail: ©2008 ultraelectronicactiv.com One point stereo microphone, which features a clip or can be mounted on the included mic holder.
